Glasgow’s SSE Hydro plays host to national and international music mega stars as well as global entertainment and sporting events. It attracts an audience of one million visitors each year, positioning it as the fifth busiest entertainment arena in the world, alongside iconic venues like Madison Square Gardens and The O2 arena.
My job was to create a big idea for the venue’s identity which reflects the Scottish Hydro brand. I did this by demonstrating the natural fit between energy and music and sport. I created a brand property in the form of a ‘live’ graphic equaliser which could change and react to the energy of an event or audience in real-time. By visualising the energy of music, sports and audience emotions I created a unique identity which evoked the passion, energy and excitement which are at the heart of the Hydro.
